10th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Letter from Fr.Steny

Dear Brothers and sisters,

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the incredibly heartwarming celebration of my 50th birthday. Your outpouring of love, support, and kind gestures made this milestone occasion truly unforgettable.

As I reflect on the wonderful gathering, we shared, I am filled with immense gratitude for every one of you. Your presence, warm wishes, and thoughtful gifts touched my heart deeply, reminding me of the beautiful community (Family) we have built together.

Your unwavering dedication to our shared mission of faith, love, and service is a constant source of inspiration to me. It is a privilege to walk alongside you on this journey of faith. I am continually humbled by your commitment to living out the values of compassion, kindness, and generosity. The memories created during the celebration will forever hold a special place in my heart. I am truly blessed to serve as your pastor and grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this milestone surrounded by such incredible individuals.

As I embark on the next chapter of my life, I carry with me the love and support of this extraordinary community (Family). May we continue to grow together in faith, hope, and love, enriching each other's lives and spreading joy to all we encounter.

Again, Thank you for your overwhelming kindness and for making my 50th birthday a day I will always treasure.

With heartfelt appreciation, warmest regards, and Prayers

Reflections

HIS FIRST EXORCISM

In the section of the Gospel just before these verses, Jesus calls his Twelve Apostles. Now he performs his first exorcism. It is told within the context of conflict with his family.

A crowd so large has gathered that Jesus and his disciples are not even able to eat their bread. His family comes to take him away because they think he is beside himself. And the scribes think he is possessed by the devil. Jesus points out to them the absurdity of their thinking that he uses the devil to cast out demons. In fact, it is Jesus who ties up the strong man, Beelzebub, and overcomes him.

He concludes with a brief saying about the forgiveness of sins. All sin can be forgiven except for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It’s not known exactly what he means by this. It could be that the only sin that can’t be forgiven is the one that cuts you off from the source of forgiveness, the Holy Spirit.

Mark then brings Jesus’ family back into the picture. They are not presented in a critical light but are just trying to see him. This gives Jesus the opportunity to point out that family for him is not based on blood.
